With t no alter the /etc/hosts file system partition, which was also a problem devices (eg Nexus 7) because changes where reverted after reboot.
Technical:
Name resolution request with "No address associated hostname". T even better than a common hosts file .0.0.1, because no connection attemp follows. tcpdump needed!
Browser:
If content , a browser app which does everything through a proxy! T because does also resolution. Negative examples I NewApk » Android »UnbelovedHosts Donate v1.1.3 : Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox Browser does.
I'm using Dolphin Jetpack, which works fine. Some #47 XDA thread.
T be release Play Store because 's policy. Other apps like AdAway where removed past... But anyway donate Play Store and/or website.
